Every Field Upgrade in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer

An important loadout feature

The majority of the loadout features in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are present in the new build of Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer. You can still equip two weapons, a lethal and tactical, three Perks, and a Field Upgrade.

The Perk system has fundamentally changed and there are the additions of Vests, but the loadout feature as a whole has remained the same. If you’re here, then you’re likely curious about one specific aspect about loadouts, which is the Field Upgrades. The Field Upgrade system works the exact same in Modern Warfare 3 as they do in MW2, but the selections you have available to you in the new game are quite different.

In total, there are 18 Field Upgrades in MW3 at launch. Most of them are returning from MW2 or previous games, but there are a solid number of new ones as well.

  1. Munitions Box – Deploy a box of ammo and equipment for you and your teammates
  2. A.C.S – The Automated Computer Spike slowly captures points and temporarily hacks nearby enemy devices
  3. Med Box – Deploy a box of medical supplies for you and your teammates
  4. Comm Scrambler – Disables communication with intel within its radius. Enemies will not be able to activate killstreaks. Enemy UAV and intel systems will not detect you
  5. Trophy System – Deployable autonomous defense system that destroys up to three nearby pieces of equipment and projectiles. Some larger targets will not be protected
  6. Heartbeat Sensor – A limited use tablet that displays rough information about nearby enemies.
  7. Inflatable Decoy – Proximity activated decoy mine. Upon activation the reinforced fiber target is violently deployed to confuse and distract. Press the ‘Tactical and Lethal’ buttons together a second time for manual activation.
  8. Tactical Insertion – Marks a location as your next spawn point. Tactical Insertion doesn’t have an effect in one-life modes, such as Search & Destroy.
  9. Tactical Camera – Remote-controlled camera that marks enemies. Press the ‘Tactical and Lethal Buttons’ to throw it, and press again to connect to it. When left on its own, the camera will monitor the area and warn players of nearby enemies by sound.
  10. DDoS – Activates a device that deactivates electronics, and disrupts enemy sensors in the immediate area for a short time.
  11. Deployable Cover – Portable, rapidly deployable ballistic cover.
  12. Recon Drone – Remote-controlled drone that has manual and auto marking capabilities.
  13. Dead Silence – Temporarily makes your footsteps silent. Gun, melee, and throwing knife kills refresh duration.
  14. Loadout Drop – Call in a team-based loadout crate with limited uses. Each player can only use it once.
  15. Portable Radar – Emits a periodic radar ping to detect nearby enemies.
  16. Smoke Airdrop – Call in a line of drones to deploy a smoke wall at a targeted location.
  17. Suppression Mine – Trip mine that when triggered, emits a constant sound wave that disrupts enemy vision and slows their movement.
  18. Anti-Armor Rounds – Gives weapon ammo that applies bonus damage against armored targets; this includes vehicles, equipment, body armor, and targets behind penetrable cover.

Perhaps the most intriguing from the list of new Field Upgrades is the A.C.S. This throwable item can capture an objective point for you, even if you’re not on the point yourself. It also hacks enemy equipment nearby, which can be quite disruptive if an enemy team has devices around a bombsite or hardpoint.
