To start a Dynamax Adventure, you need to go to the Max Lair near the entrance of The Crown Tundra and speak to the woman in front of the cave entrance. The Dynamax Adventure will consist of four battles, including one with a Legendary Pokémon. You will be able to catch and keep one that you successfully beat.

Tips and tricks for Dynamax Adventures

Beating all four Pokémon in a Dynamax Adventure can be tricky. Since you don’t get to use your own Pokémon, you rely on your partners to make good choices to get to the end and reap the rewards. Here are some tips and tricks to help you do this.

Understanding the basics

Dynamax Adventures include four Max Raid Battles with slightly different rules. For starters, you have to use a “rental” Pokémon instead of one that you own. You will get to choose between different Pokémon to battle. Once you beat an opponent, every member of the group can choose to catch it.

You have a 100% chance to catch everything, even legendaries, so keep this in mind. If you do catch it, you can trade out your current rental Pokémon for the new one, however, only one member of the group can do this. You have four hearts, and you will lose a heart each time one of your teammates gets knocked out. If you lose all four, you will get thrown out of the adventure. You will still have a chance to keep one of the Pokémon you caught prior to losing.

Always play with people online

You can choose to go on a solo adventure or queue up to find people to play with. If you decide to go in solo, you get paired with three AI players who don’t always make the best choices. So, if you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you should always try to find a group. If you have friends to play with you can use a link code and play with them as well.

Scout ahead before choosing a path

Once everyone picks a Pokémon, you will get to see what your Dynamax Adventure will look like. You can navigate the map by using the right thumbstick to see the different types of opponents as well as where scientists, berries, and backpackers are.

You want to use this information to plan out a path. If you have a bunch of Ghost-types in your team, for example, you don’t want to fight multiple Dark-types. You also want to try to run into a backpacker for items and berries for healing if possible. Lastly, you want to make sure you have some type-advantages for the Legendary encounter, as it will be the strongest.

Choosing a Pokémon to keep

Once you beat all four opponents, you will get to keep one of them. It’s important to note that you can only take one of each Legendary species. This means that if you want a shiny Groudon, for example, you need to choose not to take a Groudon if it isn’t shiny.

If you do find a Legendary and decide not to keep it, you will have the option to record where it is and find it again. This way, you can keep searching for the one you want until you find it.
