Earlier today, Damwon Gaming announced that coach Kim “Micro” Mok-kyoung is stepping down as head coach of the League of Legends team. The plan is currently for Micro to remain with the roster for one more month to help the transition for the team.
Micro’s history with Damwon Gaming
Micro founded Damwon Gaming back in May of 2017. Throughout the last few years, he worked for the team as both the coach and owner of the organization. However, now, he has sold his shares in the organization and is stepping back from coaching the League of Legends team.
This will not be the last we see of Micro. He explained in a post on his Facebook page that he expects to return to coaching the team in the future. However, no date is set for this at this time. Micro further explains that he believes this decision is best for the team at this time. He also notes that his stepping back from the Head Coach position is not due to his previous health issues. Rather, he has worked hard for the past seven years and believes that it is time for a break. Once his rest is over, Micro expects to return to the scene stronger than ever.
Zefa steps up as the interim head coach
Following the announcement of Micro stepping down from the organization, Lee “Zefa” Jae-min was chosen as interim head coach of the team. Zefa previously coached teams such as the Afreeca Freecs and SK Telecom T1, now known as T1. It is not clear yet whether Zefa will become Damwon Gaming’s permanent head coach or if they will look for a different coach to replace Micro.
However, at this time, Damwon Gaming is looking forward to trying to improve their results in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK). So far, the team is at a 3-3 series score, which is lower than their expectations.
