Philip “Lucky” Ewald, a young Danish sniper, has joined Astralis as their sixth man. The 18-year-old player is primarily an AWP user and previously played for the Danish organization Tricked Esport. Before Tricked, Lucky was a part of various amateur teams in the Danish circuit.

Astralis’ previous sniper, the legendary Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, was acquired by Ninjas in Pyjamas in April of 2021. Astralis has also recently resigned in-game leader, Lukas “gla1ve” Rossandeto, to a three-year contract extension on July 23.

Lucky before Astralis

Before Astralis, Lucky competed with Tricked Esport and a smattering of amateur teams. He started competing in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in 2016 and joined Tricked Esport in 2019. According to HLTV, Lucky has played 47% of his competitive rounds with an AWP in his hands and boasts an average of 0.72 kills per round.

His final tournament with Tricked was POWER Ligaen Season 17, where his team placed second. His final match was the quarter finals against Singularity where he had the most AWP kills of the series with 25.

Astralis in 2021

Astralis has not been as oppressing in the CS:GO professional scene as they once were in their glory days. The 2020 online era saw the team only earn three first place finishes at top tier events. They also lost some luster with a loss to Heroic at the DreamHack Open Fall 2020 and a second place finish at BLAST Premier: Fall 2020.

In 2021, the team’s best finish was at BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020 in which they placed second after a 2-0 loss to Natus Vincere. At CS:GO’s first LAN event since 2019, Astralis placed third-fourth after a 1-2 loss against G2 Esports.

The team’s current roster consists of:

  • Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen
  • Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth
  • Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander
  • Emil “Magisk” Reif
  • Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen
  • Philip “Lucky” Ewald
