Dallas Fuel sign Xzi, seemingly completing roster

Over this Overwatch League off-season, many teams have completed their signings, but Dallas is completing a revamp. The Dallas Fuel have signed former Paris Eternal DPS Ki-hyo “Xzi” Jung, joining other former Paris Eternal teammates on the roster. For those who don’t know, Dallas has completely rebuilt their roster from last season. One of its focuses for the new roster is to recruit a lot of former Element Mystic players. The latest, of course, is Xzi, who joins the Dallas Fuel to apparently complete the roster.

Xzi’s journey

Xzi was an interesting pickup for the Eternal at the start of the season, as they still had a mostly European roster. However, as the season went on and teammate Yeong-han “SP9RK1E” Kim grew old enough to play, the team shifted for the better. Having a great DPS duo of Xzi and SP9RK1E led them to a surprise tournament win, beating the Philadelphia Fusion at the Summer Showdown. Along with former Element Mystic teammate Han-been “Hanbin” Choi, they went from a mid-table team to a top tier one.

They finished the season in fourth place, a very admirable finish and destined to perform well again. Alas, with the pandemic, many teams were looking to change. The Dallas Fuel was a key example of that, disappointing fans for a third season in a row. Three key players in its roster retired, and almost all players and coaches were released. The team wanted to rebuild, focusing on DPS player Dong-ha “Doha” Kim. It all started with a single pickup, which was the former head coach of the Paris Eternal, Hee-won “RUSH” Yun.

Bringing the band back together

With the release of its head coach, the Paris Eternal seemed to be breaking apart. Rush was the head coach for the team since its Contenders days. As the Fuel started to make moves, players from Paris moved to the Fuel as well. It started with Hanbin and SP9RK1E, on the same day no less. Also, Paris support Joon “Fielder” Kwon and former Element Mystic player Jung-keun “Rapel” Kim joined them a couple days later.

Following that was a big trade for former Shanghai Dragons main tank Eui-Seok “Fearless” Lee, and an underrated pickup of Seung-soo “Jecse” Lee. No coincidence with those two pickups, as those two players were also former Element Mystic players. Rush is collecting players he’s coached before and won with before to bring Dallas into respectability. And with the signing of Xzi, the Dallas Fuel’s roster seems complete. Now, we have to wait and see if these changes can finally break the Fuel out of its mediocrity.
