There was some serious hype coming into this match given how close it was at the first Major. New York barely lost to Dallas as James “Clayster” Eubanks tried to get revenge on his former team. However, this time around, the story was completely different, as the Empire got back on track in a huge way.

Dallas Empire waste no time in first Major match

This match had upset written all over it. The Subliners were coming off a decent performance in Stage 2, going 4-1 to earn the second seed in Group A. Although, they were still considered the underdog against Dallas given the statute of the Empire’s roster and previous results.

On the side of Dallas, they didn’t perform too well during Stage 2, finishing with a 3-2 record. What worried some Empire fans was their loss to OpTic Chicago in the final match before the Major. Of course, these worries were put to rest when Dallas obliterated New York map after map in the first winner’s bracket match of the Stage 2 Major.

Each member of the Empire roster performed well, with Ian “Crimsix” Porter and Cuyler “Huke” Garland leading the team. Both players finished with K/D’s above 1.20 en route to Dallas winning each map in the series.

The Search and Destroy particularly stands out, as the Empire swept through the Subliners 6-0. Things simply weren’t clicking for New York, with Mackenzie “Mack” Kelley especially underperforming. It’s clear that the Subliners have the potential to be a top team in the CDL but once again, consistency comes back to haunt them.

New York now drops to the loser’s bracket and play again on Friday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Dallas plays the Minnesota ROKKR tomorrow, April 9, at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time in winner’s round 2.
