On August 15, German esports organization BIG has announced Tobias "tow b" Herberhold as the new head-coach replacing Alexander “kakafu” Szymanczyk who stepped down earlier this month.

The announcement also stated that rifler Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz will be the new in-game leader after Fatih “gob b” Dayik officially departed. Tow b will be working directly with him in order to improve BIG under a new style.

Previous Sprout player Niels-Christian “NaToSapiX” Sillassen took to reddit in order to show appreciation for the move. “He is a coach, a father figure, a teacher and one of my best friends,” the Dane said.

The moves comes after the legendary in-game leader gob b officially retired earlier in August and moved into a managerial position within the organization. This move was paired with the benching of Denis “denis” Howell. Both players were replaced by British AWPer Owen “smooya” Butterfield and Johannes “nex” Maget. However, as nex is currently injured, Nikola "LEGIJA" Ninić will be standing in as his temporary replacement until he has fully recovered.

Tow b joins from another German team, Sprout. He was a part of the organization since 2017 and has seen a huge rise in performance recently. However, along with BIG, Sprout failed to make it out of the European Minor for the StarLadder Major. Therefore, both teams will not be participating.

The German coach has seen some good success. For example, he led Sprout to a second place finish at the Charleroi Esports 2019 final, only to lose to Vitality. Sprout would go on to finish second in the recent Copenhagen Games 2019. Finally, Sprout won the ESL Meisterschaft: Summer 2018 event.

Therefore, BIG is now:

  • Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz
  • Owen “smooya” Butterfield
  • Johannes “nex” Maget (injured)
  • Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş
  • Tizian "tiziaN" Feldbusch

  • Tobias "tow b" Herberhold

  • Nikola "LEGIJA" Ninić (stand-in)
  • Denis "denis" Howell (benched)
