‘Chiu on This’ is a short and regular opinion blast

As a spectator, nothing riles me up more than when a player does trash talk before the game. It adds hype, tension, and expectation to the match. Counter-Strike used to be one of the better games for it, but as the years have gone on the trash talk has decreased. As that’s the case, I wanted to pick out my five favorite trash talk moments from CS:GO history.

5. Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke

Back when k0nfig was a top 10 player in the world, he was willing to trash talk any of his competitors. Among the various comments he made, my favorite was directed towards Denis "denis" Howell. At ESL Proleague Season 5 finals, he did this video for ESL where he said, “The only time you win is online. On LAN you can’t do…”

4. Nicolai "device" Reedtz

Besides looking like Tom Cruise and being a top AWPer, device also has a good sense of humor. In the beginning of 2017, Astralis and Virtus.Pro were battling back and forth for titles. Astralis beat Virtus.Pro at the ELeague Atlanta Major. Virtus.Pro then beat them in a rematch at DreamHack Las Vegas. Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas tweeted after the victory:

A month later, both teams went to IEM Katowice. Astralis made it out of groups while Virtus.Pro was eliminated. Device tweeted

It’s hard to remember now, but FalleN once had the best swagger in the entire scene. At the end of 2017, he had become a partial villain in Denmark. At BLAST Copenhagen, SK beat Astralis 2-1 in the finals. His team then went to ESL Proleague Season 6 in Odense, Denmark. SK faced off against FaZe, who had Finn “karrigan” Andersen. In his post semifinal game interview he told the crowd, “You have a choice. You can either cheer for SK or we are going to turn this place into a library again.”

He then followed it up with this classic segment of BAD FalleN.

2. Filip "NEO" Kubski

The FalleN clips was some of the best trash talk we’ve seen across any competitive esports and could be ranked number one on my list, but there were two other moments that surpassed that.

One of those moments belongs to NEO. By all reports and anecdotes, NEO is one of the most humble and nicest pros in the entire scene. He’s also someone who has had a wealth of CS knowledge. At ELeague Season 2, Virtus.Pro slaughtered Echo Fox 16-1. The interviewer asked if he had any positive words for Echo Fox. After looking for an answer for seven seconds, he said, “They tried.”

1. Karrigan

The NEO clip is brilliant and one of my favorites of all time. The best trash talk moment of all time though goes to Karrigan. At MLG Major Columbus 2016, Astralis played Fnatic in the quarterfinals. The Fnatic players were open about their lack of fear against the Danes and there was some behind the scenes trash talk that was going on. On the second map of Astralis went 13-2 in the first half. They then got to 15-2 and called a timeout.

Astralis let Fnatic stew on their failure on the Major stage for an additional two minutes. Let them soak in how they got 15-2 before they resumed play. In the post-game interview, he had this to say.
