FURIA eSports completed an unexpected upset by taking down Astralis 2-1, eliminating them from the Esports Championship Series Season 7 finals.

The series came down to Nuke, a map that Astralis once held an iconic 32-0 record on, until ENCE defeated them there in May. Furia took an aggressive stance right from the start, getting right into their opponent’s faces to gain momentum.

The Brazilians constantly overwhelmed Astralis as a result, easily taking over bombsites to secure themselves six crucial Terrorist rounds on the notoriously Counter-Terrorist favored map. In the second half, Furia put up a strong defense, eventually leading to a 16-13 win.

A perfect example came when Furia was at match point, as Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo and Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato won a vital 2v4 to guarantee victory for their team.

The other two maps of the series were fairly one-sided. Astralis won Inferno 16-12, followed by Furia winning Mirage 16-10. The Furia players were all overjoyed with the victory, jumping for joy and almost breaking into tears during their celebrations.

Furia foreshadowed this win by beating Astralis in the opening match of the tournament, a best-of-one on Nuke. Now that they have improved on that performance, their 2-0 record over Astralis is one of the best in the world.
