We have a ton of new information to sift through regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer. The gameplay reveal gave us a multitude of insights into how Modern Warfare is going to look and feel when it launches on Oct. 25. With all of this new content, there were bound to be new implementations. Of course, there will be new maps, weapons, and items, but Infinity Ward decided to change up a core element of Call of Duty, being Create-A-Class.
While it still works the same, the mechanics are not nearly the same as in years past. Let’s take a closer look at how Create-A-Class will work this year in Modern Warfare.
Pick-10 System is a thing of the past
Back in 2012, Treyarch revolutionized the Create-A-Class system with the Pick-10. Introduced in Black Ops 2, this system allowed more customization than ever. It was so well-received that every developer since then has put almost the same system in their Call of Duty titles.
However, Infinity Ward has made it clear that their goal is to shake things up. The Pick-10 system is no more in Call of Duty, and Modern Warfare introduces an all-new way to customize your weapons and classes.
Instead of having 10 points to spend on each class, Modern Warfare gives you a basic structure: one Primary weapon, one Secondary, three Perks, one lethal, and one tactical grenade. This is the same for every class you will use.
Where the changes come in lies with the new mechanic, Gunsmith. This is available for both the Primary and Secondary weapons. It allows you to fully customize your attachments, both in appearance and functionality.
How Gunsmith works in Modern Warfare
Above is a screenshot from Gunsmith in Modern Warfare. The weapon being customized is the M4A1, a fan-favorite Assault Rifle. As you can see, you can pick and choose each attachment from the muzzle all the way down to the stock.
The way Create-A-Class works for each weapon is you are able to put five attachments on each gun. This includes Optics, standard attachments, and Gun Perks. Under each category, you can find varying attachments that relate to that part of the weapon. For example, under the magazine category, there are multiple options ranging from Fast Mags to Extended Mags.
According to Infinity Ward, there are anywhere from 30 to 60 attachments for each weapon in the game. Each attachment has a Pro and Con that lets you know what it does and doesn’t do compared to another attachment.
In addition to attachments, there are now Gun Perks that take the place of an attachment. These Perks should be very familiar to anyone who has played Call of Duty before. These don’t have any Cons to them but simply give you more options to customize your weapons.
Unlike the attachments in Gunsmith, these Perks stay the same for every weapon.
Infinity Ward certainly has stepped their game up when it comes to Create-A-Class. This new system looks to be extremely user-friendly and allows for more customization than any previous system.
