Will kennyS re-sign with G2 Esports? (Source: HLTV)

This news comes after G2 Esports’ lackluster end to an uninspiring campaign thus far. This year has been very disappointing for the French team, as they have not been able to place in the top three of any event yet. The year would culminate into the biggest event thus far, the FACEIT London Major. Unfortunately, G2 would finish the Legends Stage with a 2-3 record, losing to MIBR, FaZe Clan and even North America’s compLexity Gaming. This means that G2 has lost their Legends status at the next Major. They will need to play through the Qualifiers in order to gain a spot.

Next, they would play at ESL One New York, which was looking like a reversal of fortune for G2. They would take down FaZe Clan in a pretty tightly contested series. However, they would drop the ball in the next two series, getting swept by Team Liquid and NRG Esports. The future for this once-dominant Counter-Strike team is now uncertain while kennyS decides his status. Additionally, sources are saying that G2 will not be making any big roster switches for the next months. The rest of the team has signed until the end of 2020, with the contracts being more secure for players’ daily life, at the cost of a lower salary.

What kennyS means for G2 Esports

It is safe to say that kennyS is the best player on this roster, and is the most important. The firepower he brings is key to G2’s success, and without it, they would not be able to compete at any top-level competitions. If kennyS does decide to not re-sign with G2 Esports, he will become a free agent in February of next year. There could be a plethora of teams that would want a player like Schrub on their team. Additionally, we also need to think of the reasons why kennyS would not want to sign with G2 again.

There are two main reasons: lack of talent and lack of salary. There is no doubt that kennyS considers himself a top-tier player, and this current lineup has not found any success in 2018. Many times, Schrub has been the only silver lining for his team. With more and more scrutiny falling on Edouard “SmithZz” Dubourdeaux and Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro, it would not be surprising if kennyS would want to play with other teammates. Also, Schrub is only 23 years young, and to be getting paid less to play with the same team does not seem to make sense.

Where could kennyS go?

One place kennyS could find himself come February is the new French lineup being put together by NBK and company. Currently named “Waterboys”, the lineup featuring Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire could welcome the French AWPer to the lineup. This could create a true French superteam, with a young, up and coming prodigy with some veteran talent. We will have to watch and see where kennyS ends up in the next few months.
