Luminosity Gaming defeated Splyce in the grand finals of CWL Fort Worth this weekend. A close battle all the way to the final match, Luminosity finally closed out Splyce’s attempt at a reverse sweep in the final after both teams traded wins all weekend. They faced each other three times across nine individual games over the course of the tourney.

Luminosity didn’t have the easiest path to the finals. Seeded in a stacked group, the eventual champions managed to escape Pool C—only after a loss to Splyce.

In the championship bracket Luminosity faced Gen.G, who defeated tournament favorite OpTic Gaming to secure their spot earlier in the tournament. Luckily for Luminosity, that’s when Pierce “Gunless” Hillman kicked-off his MVP-worthy performance, clutching out the series with his top-notch AR play.

From there, Luminosity easily swept Enigma6 Group in short order and found themselves again facing Splyce. While the Pool C rivals looked strong initially, Luminosity rallied to reverse sweep them 3-1, sending Splyce to the losers bracket.

Splyce launched a comeback, defeating Team Reciprocity in the losers bracket, and again met Luminosity in the finals. For a moment, it looked like Splyce would pulling of their own reverse sweep. However, Luminosity triumphed in the final two games, defeating Splyce 3-1 to secure victory.

This was Luminosity’s first major tournament win, bagging them 25,000 pro circuit points, and putting them in a great spot for the rest of the season. They’re also on the receiving end of $125,000 in prize money—a larger amount than all their previous winnings combined.
