COD World Champion John close to return, possible CDL signing coming?

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Among the biggest storylines from the 2020 Call of Duty League is the absence of a former World Champion. While there were some big names not featured on a CDL roster, like SpaceLy and Nagafen, perhaps the biggest name was Johnathon “John” Perez. Previously on some legendary rosters, like the 2015-2017 Team Envy roster, John was left out of the 2020 CDL. The reasoning for this is unknown but the former champ has perhaps shed some light on the situation. Also, he appears close to returning to the league and rumor has it a spot is already lined up for him.

For the most part, John kept quiet throughout the duration of the past year. He streamed and tweeted occasionally but nothing that would warrant much attention. In fact, his silence was more alarming than anything. There were stretches when we didn’t hear anything from the former member of Team Envy and Luminosity.

However, that appears to have a reason behind it. In his first tweet since August, John sent out two images of what looks to be a doctor’s office. Also, the caption is quite telling as to what the pro has been up to over the last year or so.

From the looks of it, John was and likely still is dealing with some mental/physical issues. It’s unclear what these problems could be, but the doctor in the second image looks to be injecting something into his upper arm/shoulder. This could indicate John is having some trouble due to playing video games and sitting in a certain position with a controller in his hands.

Regardless of what the issue is, it’s great to see that he’s doing well and getting the help he needs.

Possible CDL spot incoming?

According to rumors, John has a spot with the New York Subliners lined up when he’s ready to return. While New York has a set three starters, the fourth spot is reportedly up for grabs even with the addition of French phenom HyDra. It’s too early to tell if these rumors hold any weight but the Subliners could be a great landing spot for John.
