Chaos signs ex-BIG AWPer, smooya

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Owen “smooya” Butterfield has officially joined the ranks of the North American CSGO team, Chaos. The move comes after Chaos benched Gage “infinite” Green, leaving an opening in the NA roster. Smooya had parted ways with BIG and was looking for opportunities in the NA region, according to a TwitLonger post, so now things are coming together.

The 22-year-old AWPer was re-signed by BIG in mid-2019 after an abrupt roster shuffle. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite click for the refreshed BIG Clan team. Therefore, the German side decided to once again change things up in the 2020 CSGO season, switching to an all-German lineup after acquiring Florian “syrsoN” Rische and Nils “k1to” Gruhne. This left smooya a free agent.

The British player has now joined Chaos. Led by experienced 30-year-old Joshua “steel” Nissan, Chaos are now a complete team that features a young roster filled with 21 or 20-year-olds apart from steel. After the acquisition of smooya, the Chaos EC roster looks as follows:

  • Joshua “steel” Nissan
  • Ben “ben1337” Smith
  • Maxim “wippie” Shepelev
  • Cameron “cam” Kern
  • Owen “smooya” Butterfield
  • Alan “Shakezullah” Hardeman (coach)

Chaos will now attempt to qualify for DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020 through the North American Open Qualifier. With four spots up for grabs, the team will face the likes of Gen.G and INTZ in a best-of-three matchup format.

The young team will also compete at Season 3 of WINNERS League North America. The tournament features Cloud9, Riot Squad, INTZ, Singularity, and eUnited.

The two events will be an initial exam for Chaos. Surely, the firepower of the roster will be enough for the team to go far in both of the events.
