Can you play DMZ in Modern Warfare 3?

DMZ's future is murky, at best

DMZ was originally introduced this past year with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as a free-to-play mode, similar to Warzone. While the extraction-based mode has seen moderate success within the community, many players are confused about the future of DMZ in Modern Warfare 3.

Below, you can see everything we know about DMZ and whether you can play it in MW3.

Is DMZ playable in Modern Warfare 3?

Much of the marketing for MW3 has been centered around multiplayer, Warzone, and the new Zombies mode, which seems to combine elements of DMZ and Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak mode. As such, DMZ fans were growing more and more nervous that Activision was simply going to abandon the extraction shooter.

Well, I can confirm that DMZ is not going to be completely abandoned in MW3. However, it’s also not really going to be supported in the new game either.

According to Activision, DMZ will be playable in MW3, but only as it currently is in MW2. This means DMZ won’t receive any of the new content being introduced in MW3, including any of the maps, weapons, equipment, vehicles, etc. All you will be able to play is the current content that exists within DMZ right now. This includes all of the maps, Al Mazrah, Ashika Island, Building 21, Vondel, Koschei Complex, and MW2 loot.

It remains to be seen if DMZ will ever receive any additional content over the course of the next year. Activision stated in a blog post more information on DMZ is coming before 2023 is over, possibly with the Season 1 update in December. However, there’s no guarantee the news will be positive for DMZ fans.

So, right now, all we can do is wait for more details from Activision.
