After the grand unveiling of the first multiplayer map for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at CDL Champs, the developers have revealed yet another map, called Farm 18. Infinity Ward casually released a new video series, called Intel Drops, earlier today centered around the making of Farm 18. Two of the developers went in-depth about the map’s background and why certain decisions came to be. This will likely be an ongoing series up until Call of Duty Next, an event that will showcase Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer in its entirety.
Regarding Farm 18, this map will apparently be one of the smaller maps in Modern Warfare 2. At minimum, that’s what content creators had to say when they played the map at an early access event in June. Farm 18 is set in an industrial cement factory with a training facility built in to it. The developers said they liked the concept of the Shoothouse map, which is what inspired the idea for Farm 18. Shoothouse is a previous Call of Duty map that only takes place in a single training facility warehouse. It’s extremely small and hectic.

However, Infinity Ward also wanted players to be able to experience a different style of gameplay outside of the Shoothouse map. Essentially, Farm 18 puts the Shoothouse map in the center of a larger area. This larger area is overgrown with bushes, trees, and other fauna, and surrounding it is the concrete factory.
When talking about how they handled the overgrown fauna, Infinity Ward said they wanted to ensure they didn’t have too much of it so campers couldn’t hide in it. On the flip side, they also couldn’t make it too small because then players wouldn’t get the feel for the map’s aesthetic.
Farm 18 looks to essentially be the Shoothouse map with a larger surrounding area. However, that surrounding area doesn’t appear to be too big; players will still find themselves in hectic situations on Farm 18, just not as hectic as the core Shoothouse experience. Players can find out exactly what Farm 18 has to offer during the Modern Warfare 2 beta. Infinity Ward confirmed the map will be playable when the beta releases in September.
Aside from the actual map reveal, Infinity Ward also showcased one weapon that looked to be an assault rifle. It’s unclear exactly what this weapon was, but it certainly had a large amount of recoil.
Players can expect more Intel Drop videos from Infinity Ward between now and Call of Duty Next on Sept. 15.
