Call of Duty
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reveal trailer launched earlier today to near-universal praise from the community. Make sure to also check out our full breakdown of the reveal trailer to see what all it held.
Like most years, Activision only chose to show the Campaign side of things in the reveal. However, thanks to news outlets who visited Infinity Ward early, we have some knowledge about Multiplayer. Along with this, we have a few leaks that are not yet confirmed.
Here’s everything we currently know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Multiplayer mode.
No more Specialists in Multiplayer
As stated previously, the only confirmed information we have comes from Infinity Ward themselves. Select YouTubers and news outlets were shown different aspects while visiting the developer studios. Among these aspects are small details about Multiplayer.
Coming mostly from CharlieINTEL, we have a small look into what Modern Warfare Multiplayer will look like. Unlike in previous games, there will be no Specialist characters. Instead, they are replaced with Operators, which only have cosmetic variations.
This will surely make a majority of the community very happy, as Black Ops 4’s Specialists are extremely controversial. These Operators will have their own skins for both weapons and outfits.
In addition to the Operators, Modern Warfare will feature a never-before-seen tie-in between Campaign, Multiplayer, and Co-Operative play. According to CharlieINTEL, all three modes will affect each other. This means that you can advance something like weapon progression through all three modes.
For example, if you are playing Campaign with the M4A1 and unlock a camouflage, that same camouflage is now available in Multiplayer and Co-Op. Infinity Ward wants this game to feel like one giant game and not three separate modes. With this feature, they’ll entice players to explore other modes but still allow them to affect the mode they prefer.
PlayStation secures exclusivity rights
Every year since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the original, Activision has given one console exclusivity rights. This means that whatever console owns these rights has first access to any new content that comes out.
Since Black Ops 3, PlayStation has held these exclusivity rights for Call of Duty. PS4 players have access to new maps, guns, and DLC before Xbox One and PC. While it was up in the air for some time, it seems PlayStation has retained these rights for Modern Warfare.
Even though there is confirmed cross-play for this year, PlayStation will still have first access to any new content.
That’s all the confirmed Modern Warfare Multiplayer information we have at the moment! We will be sure to update you if any new details surface.
