For the past two years, Call of Duty has released two new battle royale experiences. Black Ops 4 in 2018 had Blackout at launch, the series’ first iteration in the genre. This was followed up by Call of Duty: Warzone, which released as a standalone, free-to-play title in 2020.
When comparing the two, it’s apparent that Warzone is more popular with fans. However, Blackout was still loved dearly by some players and remains played to this day. If you’re in this crowd, you may be in luck when it comes to Call of Duty 2020.
The return of Blackout?
The rumor mill has been swirling nonstop when it comes to the next title in the Call of Duty series. What we know so far is the game is set in the Cold War and apparently has the title of “Call of Duty: Black Ops”.
Along with this, we’ve also heard rumors that Call of Duty: Warzone will be updated for the new title. This means that the battle royale will potentially receive new updates and seasons throughout the life cycle of the next game.
In addition to that rumor, another leak has surfaced about Call of Duty‘s other battle royale. According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, Blackout could return in “some form” when the next title releases.
In other shocking news, Blackout is going to return in some form with Black Ops this year.

We can’t completely take Grubb’s word as truth, but the insider has been correct about this kind of information before. So, take this rumor with some severity but also a grain of salt.
We’re not entirely sure what Grubb means, however, when he says Blackout will return. As previously stated, it’s been leaked multiple times that Warzone will be featured in 2020. Could we see some remastered locations from Blackout added to Warzone, or multiple battle royales?
