On Jan. 26, the German CSGO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) team BIG won DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020 on home soil. They win after beating the team from down under, Renegades, 2-0 in the best-of-3 grand final. With this win, BIG walks home with the $50,000 grand prize and a spot at DreamHack Masters Jönköping, taking place this June.

BIG win despite recent roster changes
BIG has surprised everyone with the win in Leipzig. They came into this tournament as their LAN debut after the additions of former Sprout players Florian “syrsoN” Rische and Nils “k1to” Gruhne. The recent changes to the team saw them starting today ranked #46 according to the HLTV.org world ranking, last in terms of the other teams in attendance.
BIG were statistically the best team in Leipzig, averaging a team rating of 1.19 over six maps. Their victory was spearheaded by the massive performances by syrsoN, k1to, and Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz. These players averaged 1.18, 1.15, and 1.36 ratings, respectively. tabseN was the highest-rated player of the tournament, having one of the best tournaments of his entire career.
The future for BIG
This organization will be one of the teams to watch the closest in 2020 after their win in Leipzig. They raised eyes to the fact that German Counter-Strike and the BIG project are not doomed. They will be looking to have more good results with such a skilled roster, including the likes of tabseN and Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş.
BIG’s next confirmed event is DreamHack Masters Jönköping in June of this year. So far, they are the only confirmed team for this event, but more teams will be announced in the future, as this event is part of the ESL Pro Tour. Most likely, we will see BIG competing in the minor cycle for the next Major, ESL One Rio, taking place later this year.
BIG will be looking to compete after the win at DreamHack Open Leipzig.
