Atlanta FaZe was shown the door during the third day of the Stage 5 Major in front of thousands of fans when they lost 3-2 to Seattle Surge. FaZe’s loss knocked them out of the tournament in the top eight. That means for the first time all year, Atlanta FaZe will not be present in the grand final.

Out of The last four major’s Atlanta FaZe has been present in all four of the grand finals. In those four finals appearances, they have walked away with three victories. The only time FaZe lost was against the Toronto Ultra who won the Stage 2 Major. Across the entire year, Atlanta has only lost seven matches in the 41 series they have played. They have earned the most points across all teams in the CDL and were just eliminated by a team who won’t be present at playoffs.

Twelfth place Seattle defeats first place Atlanta FaZe

Seattle Surge entered the Stage 5 Major knowing that they would not be present at Champs at the end of the year. They were the worst team in the league as it played out online. It wasn’t until the Stage 4 Major that fans began to see what Seattle Surge was capable of offline. That capability continued to shine during the Stage 5 Major as they made their run through the lower bracket.

Surge had already defeated Paris Legion and London Royal Ravens before facing Atlanta FaZe. In an intense game-five scenario, Seattle showed that FaZe could be defeated. They were able to take both Hardpoints maps from FaZe before finishing the game off in a Standoff Search and Destroy. While Seattle Surge’s win eliminates Atlanta FaZe, it also puts Seattle further than they’ve ever been at a tournament.
