Florida's Champs fate is no longer in its hands

The Call of Duty League losers bracket run for Atlanta FaZe continues as they defeated the Florida Mutineers to advance to championship Sunday at CDL Major IV.

Florida came into Saturday with the highest hopes and a chance to secure their own fate for the Champs bracket. However, two matches later against New York Subliners and Atlanta, they’re out of the tournament, leaving their fate up to chance. If the Subliners win one out of two series Sunday, they will knock the Mutineers out of the top eight in the standings and eliminate them from making Champs.

For Atlanta, this series looked to be a simple walk in the park, aside from the Search and Destroy on Berlin. FaZe dominated all three respawns and did not let Florida have much of a chance to even take a lead, let alone win any of the maps.

This win further secures Atlanta’s spot at the top of the CDL standings and moves them into a position to make their fourth grand finals in a row. They’ll have to beat OpTic Texas and the loser of NYSL/LA Thieves on Sunday to do so.

Mutineers sink against Atlanta FaZe

Despite a solid win in the Berlin Search and Destroy, the Mutineers were thoroughly outclassed in this match. In the Map 1 Gavutu Hardpoint, Florida’s best map, McArthur “Cellium” Jovel and Atlanta made the Mutineers look like a Challengers team. Florida had no chance to secure any points through the second set of rotations, as Cellium went on a 10-kill streak and finished with 26 kills and a 2.17 KD (kills/deaths).

Putting aside the Berlin S&D, Atlanta went on to dominate Florida in the respawns. The Control on Tuscan was anything but close, with Florida losing 3-0. This was Atlanta’s third straight 3-0 victory on Tuscan Control, so we could see it vetoed by their opponents moving forward. Once again, Cellium was dominant, but Chris “Simp” Lehr also had a nice map with a 1.71 KD.

Finally, things were mercifully ended on Tuscan Hardpoint. While the Mutineers tried to claw their way back into the map, FaZe were having none of it and won in convincing fashion. Cellium and Simp finished with 1.44 and 1.36 KDs, respectively, to lead Atlanta to championship Sunday and a date with OpTic Texas, who they have yet to beat this season.

Florida goes home with a Champs berth hanging in the balance. The Mutineers’ eyes will certainly be glued to the screen Sunday at Major IV, hoping for NYSL to lose both of their matches.
