The Toronto Ultra may be hosting Call of Duty League Major III, but the home-field advantage didn’t translate to a match win. The Ultra fell to the Atlanta FaZe in round one of the winner’s bracket at Major III, making the rest of the tournament single-elimination for Toronto. Atlanta dominated the Ultra for a majority of the match, winning 3-1 in the end. While they faltered in the Search and Destroy and parts of the Control matches, they still proved that they can be one of the best teams in the game.
Atlanta FaZe send Toronto to the loser’s bracket
Atlanta and Toronto kicked off their winner’s bracket on Bocage Hardpoint, which is a solid map for both teams. This was evident in how they played each other on the map; it was scrappy until the very end with Atlanta ultimately taking the victory. Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris didn’t have the best map, going 25-34, while his main AR players in Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson and McArthur “Cellium” Jovel picked up the slack.
Pharris’ bad luck continued in map two, the Desert Siege Search and Destroy match, yielding a 1-6 loss for Atlanta with Toronto obliterating them in almost every round. Jamie “Insight” Craven finished 10-2 while aBeZy only managed one kill.

In the third map, Control on Tuscan, the Ultra kept things rolling from their map two performance for the first two rounds where they went up 2-0. As round three came around, the wheels started to fall off for the Ultra as FaZe came roaring back to take the map by taking three straight rounds, led by aBeZy’s 43 kills, marking an end to his earlier streak of bad luck. It was a thrilling finish that gave Atlanta all the momentum they needed to close the series out on their best map and mode combination: Tuscan Hardpoint.
From the start, it didn’t seem like the Ultra had a chance against FaZe on Tuscan. Every member of Atlanta turned in a great performance and sent Toronto to the loser’s bracket at their own event.

Atlanta now moves on in the winner’s bracket, playing for the next time on Saturday while Toronto is one loss away from elimination in their match tomorrow.
