This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Danny “zonic” Sørensen, the coach of Astralis, has been rewarded for his efforts of this year. The Danish coach has received the award for “Coach of the Year” following yet another year of impressive achievements attained by the Danish powerhouse in CSGO. The event took place in Arlington, Texas, with many other categories such as Commentator of the Year (clinched by CSGO‘s Henry “HenryG” Greer), Cosplayer of the Year, and even Journalist of the Year.

Zonic and Astralis continue their dominance on the scene

Zonic is arguably the best CS 1.6 player coming from Denmark. The 33 year-old competed heavily in a lot of teams, including SK Gaming, evermore, Demise, and mousesports. His failed transition to play in CSGO in mTw led to becoming a coach of Astralis in the end.

Whether people support the Danish side or not, it is undeniable that Astralis has definitely become one of the strongest teams ever to compete in CSGO, or even CS in general. Though last year was dubbed the “year of Astralis”, the name can be easily applied to 2019 also. Despite an impressive stride by Team Liquid, Astralis’ rival from the year prior, it was the Danish side that was triumphant at both Majors of this year. First, Astralis repeated the surprise ENCE at the IEM Katowice Major. Then, they won their third straight Major against AVANGAR in the final of the StarLadder Major, ending Team Liquid’s shot at making 2019 this year.

By watching Astralis play, one can notice the chemistry and trust between Zonic and the players. He is their motivator as well as strategist. Definitely someone you want to have on your side when under pressure, competing at the biggest events out there. The award is surely well deserved.
