As of today, March 16, Astralis has decided to part ways with veteran mid laner, Erlend “nukeduck” VÃ¥tevik Holm, and extend his rookie counterpart, Carl Felix “MagiFelix” Boström. The Norwegian player started for the organization at the begining of the 2021 season but stepped down in February due to personal reasons. Astralis went 1-7 with nukeduck in a starting role and 5-6 with MagiFelix.
History of nukeduck
The veteran mage player started his League of Legends professional career in early 2011. He joined the EU LCS in 2013 with Lemondogs. Nukeduck managed a World Championship appearance in his first year in the league. However, he left the team after the season concluded. He, along with other EU LCS players, tried to qualify for the league through the promotion system by competing in the EU LCS Challenger Series. But, they were suspended from competitive play for offensive language, in game harassment and toxicity in 2014.
Riot lifted his ban in December of the same year. Nukeduck was back on an EU LCS team the following season. He has played for a few different teams in the European region. This includes Team ROCCAT, Vitality and FC Schalke 04 Esports. Nukeduck is known for his giant champion pool, piloting over 50 champions in his competitive career.
The future with MagiFelix
The former Fnatic Academy player made his LEC debut with Astralis in 2021. While not as versatile as his Norwegian counterpart, the Swedish mid laner had an almost even record starting for the team and helped it crawl above last place in the league. MagiFelix will presumably be the team’s starting mid laner for the remainder of 2021, as his contract has been extended to the end of the year. Previously, his contract was to expire on March 31.
MagiFelix has been a professional player since 2016 and was in the Fnatic system for over a year. He joined his former organizations as a substitute for the 2019 World Championships. He will continue his tenure as the starting mid laner for Astralis in the summer season.
