The New York Subliners have announced Obaid “Asim” Asim has signed with the organization and is joining the starting roster. The French phenom Paco “HyDra” Rusiewiez was originally the team’s fourth member but due to visa issues with COVID-19, he won’t be able to play for the time being.
Asim has reportedly been a target for the Subliners for some time, but the signing was delayed thanks to some legal matters. However, all is well and now the former Minnesota Rokkr player has joined an interesting New York roster. With the Kickoff Classic starting tomorrow, Asim has the chance to show what he can do right away.
I know it took far too long, there was just some negotiations and legal stuff to work through :). Excited to have Sim on NYSL, he’s impressed me thus far and I foresee him continuing to do so. LETS GET ITTTTT https://t.co/Y8JTCIYywD

New York Subliners add Asim in another roster move
This past week has been quite busy for the Subliners. It started with Tommy “ZooMaa” Paparatto announcing his retirement due to medical issues with his hand and wrist. Then, to replace the Italian Stallion, NYSL promoted Conor “Diamondcon” Johst from the Academy team to the starting roster.
Now, Asim joins the team with a lot to prove. He, along with the rest of the Minnesota Rokkr, was released at the end of the 2020 season after underperforming for most of the year. While many attribute Rokkr’s downfall to the online nature of the league, many of the players feel they have something to prove.

For Asim specifically, he’ll get an opportunity to showcase his abilities straight away. He’s been practicing with the Subliners since Black Ops Cold War began and has looked solid in scrimmages. Still predominantly running a submachine gun, his signing allows for others on the roster to get back into the roles they know best.
In regards to the Kickoff Classic and likely Opening Weekend, here’s the New York Subliners starting roster:
- James “Clayster” Eubanks
- Obaid “Asim” Asim
- Makenzie “Mack” Kelley
- Conor “Diamondcon” Johst
