The 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Summer Split starts on June 17. Ten of the best League of Legends teams in Korea will compete for their share of â‚©300,000,000 (~$250,000 USD). The competition runs through a total of 10 weeks, with the regular season ending on Aug. 23. Here’s everything you need to know as we head into this Summer Split.
Who is competing
With the LCK franchising this year, several teams have rebranded since the end of this year’s Spring Split. Notably, the former APK Prince team has rebranded to SeolHaeOne Prince, and DragonX is now simply called DRX. Otherwise, many well-established Korean organizations will return. Gen.G, T1, Damwon Gaming, KT Rolster, Hanwha Life Esports, and Sandbox Gaming will all compete in this new LCK split.
The tenth team is a newcomer to the LCK stage, Team Dynamics. This team qualified through the 2020 LCK Summer promotion tournament earlier this year. They managed to defeat both Sandbox Gaming and Seorabeol Gaming, and they look very strong coming into the summer season. Another unique feature of Team Dynamics is that the roster only consists of five players.
The season’s schedule
The LCK broadcast is live Wednesday to Sunday every week. The games start at 5:00 p.m. KST / 10:00 a.m. CEST / 4:00 a.m. ET. Sandbox Gaming and the Afreeca Freecs will face off in the opening matches of the season, followed by DRX vs T1 later in the day.
One of the matches to look out for is between DRX and Gen.G on Friday, June 19. This will start three hours after the initial broadcast goes live.
The 2020 LCK Summer Split format
The 2020 LCK Summer Split’s format is very simple to understand. All matches will play in the best-of-three format. As all teams face each other twice during the 10 match weeks, both teams have a chance at their preferred side selection once.
The teams start out the competition on the League of Legends patch 10.11 update. The 10.12 update will arrive in the second week of matches.
How to watch the 2020 LCK summer split
There are various platforms on which to find the official broadcasts of the LCK. The games will stream as official English broadcasts on YouTube, and different Twitch channels will show both English and Korean.
