How to use Zombies to unlock weapons and gear in MW3

The unlock process for many of the weapons and other gear in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer can be extremely time-consuming and confusing. Around half of the content in multiplayer is locked behind the Armory Unlock Challenges, which forces you to complete challenges to unlock items. While you can use this system in MW3 to unlock those items through multiplayer, the Zombies mode offers a much faster method.

This unlock method works for both weapons and Lethal/Tactical Equipment. So if there’s a weapon or any piece of equipment you want unlocked for use in multiplayer, you can head into Zombies and unlock it much quicker than you would following the Armory Unlock Challenges system.

How to unlock weapons and equipment in MW3 through Zombies

If you played any DMZ last year in MW2, then you know exactly how this unlock method works. However, for anyone who needs a refresher or didn’t play DMZ, I have you covered. In Zombies, you can find every single weapon and piece of equipment that’s available in multiplayer. You can find these items by looting or killing Zombies bosses/enemy A.I. For weapons specifically, you can also use the Mystery Box or the Wall Buy system as well.

Once you find a weapon or piece of equipment you haven’t unlocked yet in multiplayer, make sure to equip it in Zombies. Don’t add it to your Rucksack, make sure you equip it on your character.

After you equip the items, all you need to do is successfully exfil. You can exfil by looking on your map for a blue person/door icon. If you manage to exfil from the map, whatever items you have equipped on your character stay with you, allowing you to use them in your next match of Zombies.

However, that content will also be unlocked for use in MW3 multiplayer. This completely bypasses the Armory Unlock Challenges system for weapons and equipment, so I highly recommend taking advantage of it, especially if you’re on the camo grind.

Although, it can take some time to find weapons or equipment in Zombies that you don’t have unlocked in multiplayer. There’s some luck involved, so my advice is to loot every building, use the Mystery Box as much as possible, and ensure you’re searching for Wall Buys. Wall Buys are random and usually located on the outside of buildings, but they’re the best way to acquire a weapon you need.
